Advice for Parents on Preventing and Tackling Bullying

At Disley Primary School, we are committed to creating a safe, caring and respectful environment where every child feels valued and supported. We believe that bullying is never acceptable and that children have the right to learn and play free from fear or intimidation.

Parents and carers play a vital role in helping to prevent and tackle bullying. We encourage families to:

  • Talk regularly with their child about their friendships, school life and online activities.
  • Encourage children to speak openly about any worries or concerns.
  • Help children understand the importance of kindness, respect and inclusion.
  • Model positive relationships and respectful behaviour.
  • Monitor children's use of technology and discuss how to stay safe online.
  • Encourage children not to retaliate if they experience unkind behaviour and to seek support from a trusted adult.

If you think your child may be experiencing bullying, listen calmly and reassure them that they have done the right thing by speaking up. Gather as much information as possible and contact the school so that we can work together to investigate concerns and provide appropriate support.

Equally, if your child has been involved in bullying behaviour, we will work in partnership with you to help them understand the impact of their actions, take responsibility and make positive changes.

At Disley Primary School, we promote a culture of openness where children know that trusted adults will listen, support and take concerns seriously. By working together, we can help ensure that every child feels safe, happy and proud to belong.

If you have concerns about bullying, please contact your child's class teacher in the first instance or speak directly to a member of the senior leadership team.
